The rats, aged 5 wks, were subjected to two weeks of training. After the training, the right jugular vein of the rat was cannulated for blood sampling under anesthesia(pentobarbital, 50mg/kg b.w.). Two days after the operation, the rats were forced to run at treadmill speeds ranging from 10 to 40 m/min increased 5 m/min for 4 min to determine the lactate threshold(LT). The LT speed was found to be between 10 and 20 m/min. Next, the rats were also forced to run at treadmill speeds ranging from 10 to 30 m/min increased 10 m/min for 10 min, and blood samples were collected at, 10, 20, 30 and 40 min(recovery 10 min)after zero time sampling. The increasein ACTH release was dependent on the running speed. As for the GH level, a tendency towards a speed dependent decrease was observed. Blood suger was unchanged throughout the experiment. Thus it was indicated that the model for ACTH release profiles of rats during graded running was similar to that of man and may be used for analyzing mechanisms.
