The concept was developed in the UK in the 1960s and has prevailed in Japan since approximately 2000. Interprofessional education (IPE) is the basis for an effective implementation of the MDT concept, and clinical and disciplinary educators continue to explore options for the development of the most appropriate IPE program. This study aimed to review the challenges of IPE in clinical and disciplinary education settings in developed countries using CINAHL database articles of 2006–2016. The results indicated that disciplinary trainees realize their specialties and responsibilities through appropriate IPE but are conflicted regarding inappropriate stages or settings. Through this review, we describe an ideal program in which a disciplinary student interacts with other disciplinary students at an early stage. In a simulation script, the student subsequently takes the opportunity to work with other disciplinary students as a specialist and then performs clinical practice with other disciplinary students.
