[Helping children maximize their abilities] included {Recognizing and praising children’s efforts}, {Talking to children to distract them}, and {Asking children not to move}. [Respecting the rights of children] included {Explaining grounds/reasons for conducting infusion treatment}, {Explaining the effects of infusion treatment}, and {Informing children of their conditions}. [Encouraging the independence of children] included {Suggesting methods for children to exert efforts}, and {Asking children not to move}. [Helping children feel secure] included {Informing children that treatment will soon be completed} and {Informing children of progress in treatment}. To help children understand “infusion”, the health care professionals used the following expressions: “This may sting a bit”, “This medicine kills germs”, and “I am going to put a straw into your arm”.\nThe results suggested that if physicians recognize and praise children’s efforts during infusion treatment, their self-regulatory functions will be improved, which will help the physicians continue the therapy smoothly. Furthermore, since children have rights to receive specific explanations of treatment and nursing care that they are going to undergo, it is necessary for health care professionals to provide explanations according to the growth and development of each pediatric patient. Children’s independence will be enhanced by explaining what you want them to do during treatment.
