In this paper, we report on the process of program development.\nBased on the component elements of resilience in the face of illness elucidated in a previous study, the ability to independently understand their illness and to exhibit a positive attitude in their behavior were established as the main points of the program. The program was created based on the results of an analysis of a survey on the views of parents regarding the independence of their child with congenital heart disease and what was needed to support their independence. The results of a literature review also were used in creating the program.\nThe theme of the first part of the program was, “Thinking about what we can do as parents to help our children understand their illness.” The theme of the second part was, “Thinking about what we can do as parents to help our children show a positive attitude in their behavior.” The program consisted of lectures and group work. The two parts of the program were implemented with the assistance of four chapters of a patient advocacy group.
