The concept of \"fields\" used to refer to these sports-participation timeframes which are provided by school athletic club (undobu), sport youth group (sport shonendan) and other local clubs. Using six of these fields, The career patterns of athletes was clairfied in terms of the fields they were involved in at each Life-stage, from elementary school onward. The impetus for carrying out this research lies in an interpretation of the hypothesis that the sports-participation timeframes for youths are becoming increasingly complicated and overlapped. Arai has suggested that multiple sports-participation timeframes exist within society and that people today are becoming increasingly competitive, referring to the appearance of competitive sports environments for teams that are outside of the school athletic club system. The main results are as follows : It seems that for an overwhelming majority of athletes, school athletic clubs served as their fields, but upon following the career patterns of each athlete, it was found that this was not necessarily the case. Namely, it becomes clear that many athletes had active fields outside of school, in other words, outside of their school-athletic-club field during all periods : elementary, junior and senior high school, and collede.
