Collected interview data was analyzed qualitatively. As a result of analysis, 351 codes, 40 subcategories, 8 categories, and three core categories were extracted.\n　Clinical nurses recognize patients as the “true image of the patient” which is the nurses' understanding of the culmination of the patient's life to this point, and as “future view of the patient” which is how they view the patient from this point forward. The third core category “foundation to understanding” is a base and a method which can be used to help nurses understand patients.
