Subjects comprised 5 nursing students in charge of laryngectomees during third-year adult nursing practice. Data were collected through practice records and semi-structured interviews conducted post-practice, and qualitative induction analysis was performed. Results were classified into the following 5 core categories: preparation for being in charge of laryngectomees, learning about acceptance of loss of function and changes in body image, learning from realizing the difficulty and importance of communication, learning from involvement in lifestyle restructuring, and learning through the joy of nursing. Students had learned and blew up an image from the time of deciding that a laryngectomees is taken charge of. Students were learning about making human relations through difficult experience in communication with a laryngectomees.
