All types of amorphous materials, that is, conventional glasses (mainly oxide glasses), gels, chalcogenide semiconductors, elemental semiconductors, carbons and metals have been covered. It has been shown that the amorphous materials can be prepared in large blocks, wide films, continuous ribbons and fibers, there is a controversy on the structure of the amorphous materials (the random network and crystallite theories), and the amorphous materials show most of the useful, active properties which the crystalline materials have.
