The equilibrium conditions for the member end moments and story shear forces were first expressed in the form of two difference equations containing the rotation angle at each panel point. The difference equations were converted to a set of simultaneous differential equations, by treating the rotation angle as a continuous function. Substituting general solutions for the rotation angle to the differential equations led to a set of homogeneous simultaneous linear equations, and the buckling strength was determined from the condition that the determinant of the coefficient matrix of the simultaneous equations became zero at the instance of the buckling. The size of the coefficient matrix was only 2, and thus the solution was obtained by simple and easy computation.
