Diseased eel were caught in Taiwan, Other fish were collected in Japan. Histologically, ichthyophonus affecting each fish, had the same morphology : multinucleate spherical body, pregermination, germination, hyphal body and endospore formation. It systemically spread in each affected fish. Inflammatory reactions in infected lesions were chracterized by the formation of granulomas walling off of the pathogen.
