In raft condition, the breeding intensity\nand proportion of individuals carrying egg masses in the population remain very similar to each other\nthroughout the year, but in intertidal specimens, it is not necessarily so.\n Balanus improvisus in Matoya Bay and B. amphitrile in Machiya-ura, Pacific coast of Central Honshu, may breed throughout the year, but in other Balanus species in these areas and in Chthamalus\nchallengeri in Hakodate Bay, southern coast of Hokkaido, breeding does not occur during the serve\nmonths of winter.
