These rivers which have wide tidal flats at their mouths show much different features of sediment on the flats, but benthic faunas are not so much different between the two rivers. Number of the collected species of the two rivers is comparable, while biomass of the animals is larger in the Shitomo River than in the Ano River. Individual number of the dominant species of the two rivers is comparable, but biomass of the species is larger in the Shitomo River.
