The resulting fractions were characterized in comparison with the corresponding fractions of dissolved lignins. About 50% of residual lignins in kraft pulps was of higher molecular weight, richer in conjugated systems and more rigid, compared with dissolved lignins. These high molecular weight fractions were not formed by secondary condensation during pulping, but came from original high molecular weight fractions.
