Cumulative fruit drops in FC-treated (10 ppm) fruit were 4% in contrast to 12% in the control at 5 days after treatment. Meanwhile, ABA (1,000 ppm) considerably accelerated fruit drop. The percent of fruit drops was reduced by two thirds by FC 7 hours after ABA treatment. FC would thus appear to function as antagonist of ABA. FC clearly reduced ABA-like substance content but increased the amount of ethylene.
