In this study, six different taxa of genus\nRhizoctonia, includes three genus Thanatephorus, Waitea and\nCeratobasidium on the teleomorph, of rice and weed sclerotial\nfungi, were classified with PCR-RFLP band patterns. Eight\nisolates of bincleate Rhizoctonia AG-Ba, the gray sclerotial\nfungus, showed three banding patterns, Type I (4 isolates),\nType II (2 isolates) and a mixed-banding type (2 isolates). To\ndetermine whether the mixed-banding type arose from genome\nmixing between Type I and II, we cloned PCR products of ITS\nregions include 5.8S rDNA sequence. Twelve sequences\nderived from each isolates were sequenced from both\ndirections and multiply aligned. The cluster analysis based on\nthe multiple alignment showed that sequences derived from\neach isolate divided into two clades. The sequences derived\nfrom mixed-banding type isolates were divided into both two\nclades, revealing these isolates caused from genome crossing\nbetween Type I and II. To confirm this interpretation,\nmicrosatellite fingerprints of 54 isolates of binucleate\nRhizoctonia AG-Ba were investigated and the fingerprint\npatterns were analyzed with cluster analysis. Unexpectedly,\nfingerprint patterns derived from 54 isolates were divided into\nthree clades, unlike results of ITS sequencing. The result of\ncluster analysis likely to cause by unique banding patterns of\nthe mixed type isolates, although banding patterns of few\nisolates showed mixed character of Type I and II.
