This means that they　spend most of the time of the day with their fellow foreign students and that their chances to interact with Japanese students are limited. Those who have reached upper-middle or advanced levels can develop their language command more effectively\nthrough opportunities to communicate with Japanese students. Japanese students can\nalso benefit from such opportunities which will lead them to cross-cultural understanding and train them to be able to survive in the global environment. Thus, CIS decided\nto accept Japanese students into advanced courses.\n　Once it was announced, numerous Japanese students beyond the capacity at CIS applied to the course. After the selection procedure, 12 foreign students and 18 Japanese students were accepted and were divided into three discussion groups. The\ngroups were engaged in discussions under the topics given by the instructor or chosen by themselves. The students took turns to chair the discussions and submitted mid-term\nand final written reports. Details of these processes are provided in the article.
