In order to clarify 1) the growth in the annual and total number of submitted papers, 2) the percentage of papers in arXiv and SPIRES-HEP subsequently published in scholarly journals and their publication information, and 3) differences of years between submission to arXiv/SPIRES-HEP and publication in journals, all papers (about 730,000) submitted to SPIRES-HEP/arXiv between 1969 and 2007 were analyzed.
