According to the Course of Study, the goal of learning English for junior high school students is to acquire basic communication abilities for real communication. However, Japan is a country where people do not need English as an instrument of communication. English language teachers in junior high school should have a firm belief in the value of teaching English. In Chapter 1, I examined the nationwide situation in respect of English learning. In order to better grasp the current English classes, I conducted a survey of English language teachers in Suzuka city, Mie prefecture. This survey revealed that most of, teachers think that they should conduct communication activities in order to enhance students' communication abilities, and that they are now conducting communication activities in which students interact with each other. In Chapter 2, I defined communication for junior high school students based on selected previous studies. Communication is not merely exchanging meaningless information. Communication in English is one by which students can feel the necessity of using English now. I also examined communicative competences on the basis of three theories: one by Chomsky, one by Hymes and one by Canale and Swain. After taking them into consideration, I analyzed the new Course of Study to make clear how communication abilities are described in it. As a result, it was made clear that contexts should be emphasized more in English classes. Teachers should always make students aware of the contexts in which English is used. In Chapter 3, I looked for better materials and activities on the basis of the theories by Widdowson. First, teachers should let students aware of discourse in presenting sentences to students. Second, teachers do not need to adhere to giving real English materials. Whether some materials are authentic or not is dependent on students. Authenticated materials are produced from meaningful communication by student in the classroom. From the point of the relationship between authenticity and the classroom, it is made clear that the classroom should be a place to learn from each other, where many materials are authenticated by students. Teachers should make a classroom a place to learn through communication. Ultimately, communication for students in English classes must be an activity which can build relationships between themselves. It must be also a process which helps students to develop their personal growth. Lastly, taking into consideration all that has been discussed in this paper, I summarized the six important things which teachers should tell students about English learning throughout the three years at junior high school.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_7_description_5":{"attribute_name":"内容記述","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_description":"三重大学教育学研究科博士前期課程教科教育専攻","subitem_description_type":"Other"},{"subitem_description":"3, 104","subitem_description_type":"Other"}]},"item_7_publisher_30":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"三重大学"}]},"item_7_text_65":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ(三重大)","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_value":"Master's Thesis / 修士論文"}]},"item_7_version_type_15":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Kushida, Asako","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2017-02-18"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"2009M057.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"9.6 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"2009M057.pdf","url":"https://mie-u.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/7274/files/2009M057.pdf"},"version_id":"37203b6e-be76-4303-822f-526b373f4065"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"thesis","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_46ec"}]},"item_title":"Theoretical considerations of English language education in junior high school in Japan : from the perspective of communication","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"Theoretical considerations of English language education in junior high school in Japan : from the perspective of communication","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"7","owner":"15","path":["591"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"PubDate","attribute_value":"2013-05-27"},"publish_date":"2013-05-27","publish_status":"0","recid":"7274","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Theoretical considerations of English language education in junior high school in Japan : from the perspective of communication"],"weko_creator_id":"15","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-09-08T00:30:20.911116+00:00"}
