By focusing on the surrounding region, the southern part of Yokkaichi City (the Suizawa, Oyamada, Utsube, and Kawarada districts), conducting field investigations of the dialects used, and analyzing the results in relation to major sociolinguistic factors (changes across administrative districts and major roads, differences in the natural environment, etc.), the goal was to uncover the richness of the vocabulary used in daily life in each district. The results of the dialect survey were used to create videos and a linguistic map, teaching materials which were then used in classes conducted at elementary schools in each of the applicable areas. A workshop was also held afterward.
