Sinus lavage and administration of antibiotics and/or steroids in a form of aerosols are usually employed. Failure of these medical managements is an indication for surgical treatment in the patents more than 10 years old. Nasal polyps must be treated surgically. In the patients more than 16 years old, severe and moderate sinus lesions are treated by surgery. If a patient shows, moderate lesion localized in the maxillary sinus, surgery is indicated only following a failure of adequate medical managements for 3 months. In such cases, the functional sinus surgery is indicated, because ciliated epithelium of the maxillary sinus is well preserved. Medical management is absolutely indicated to the patients with mild sinus lesion.
