The amount of water in the glass was varied from 0.0014 wt% to 0.105 wt% ; glasses containing higher amounts of water were prepared by exposing the glassy melt to water vapor at 1400° ~ 1450℃ and those containing lower amounts of water by exposing the glassy melt to dried nitrogen. The infrared absorption measurements indicated that the exposure of E glasses to water vapor at high temperatures increased the water content and at the same time decreased the B2O3 content. Therefore, correction as to the effect of B2O3 content on the viscosity of glass was attempted.
