A polynominal approximation methods was applied for the nonlinear relations between observed values, namely sterss difference, radial displacemnt and pore pressure in the triaxial compression tests, and time by means of a least-squares fitting. By a general n th-order polynominal equation being transformed to a system of orthgonal functions, it was shown that optimal order in the equation which was filt to experimental data could be selected easily (see equation (10), (11)). Comparison of experimental values with calculated values in approximate curves is described in Fig. 3 to Fig. 5.
