| 内容記述 | The purpose of this study is to describe the characteristics of the use of Seki Town’s historical landscape (Kameyama City in Mie Prefecture, Japan) through an analysis of the local government and regional organizations’ efforts in regional development. There are a lot of historical buildings in the center of Seki Town, and the local government and residential organizations moved on with the historical landscape conservation relatively early. This area was designed as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in 1984 because a shadow of post town has remained. After being certified as an Important Preservation District, the local government prepared a variety of educational programs such as citizens’ courses for the local residents to learn the regional history and culture. The historical landscape has also been regarded since the 2000s as a tourism resource to promote regional development; the local government has been engaged in establishing tourist facilities such as public museums, or rest stations and landscaping works of some local cultural properties on the Tokai-do. Furthermore, the local residents have worked aggressively to voluntary guide tour activities by utilizing their own wisdom or experiences with the learning contents. In the late 2000s, the local government recognized the historical landscape as a much more important tourism resource for regional development and has tried to associate community events, such as traditional festivals or local education, with tourism. In Seki Town, the historical landscape of the post town plays an ‘iconic’ role in the regional identity of local people. Thus, it functions as a place for ‘local education’ and the local government and residents have utilized the space for educational purposes. On the other hand, the historical landscape is also recognized as the meanings of regional development. Today local people use the historical or cultural knowledge accumulated in a living space as well as the appearance of the historical buildings. It can be pointed out that the regional development in Seki Town has made progress caused by the interaction between using the historical landscape for education and tourism, while the more comprehensive regional resources on the historical landscape tend to be regarded as a subject for use in regional development. | |||||||||||||||||
