| 内容記述 | Various volunteer groups have been taking an active part in helping foreign residents to learn Japanese in order to be more independent and better able to communicate in Japanese society. Universities, too, have recently been expected to contribute more positively to the local community, and we in Mie University therefore need to rethink what services we can offer in this way, and what the foreign residents really need. Over the past four years, the Center for International Students at Mie University has provided “survival Japanese courses for foreign residents in the Mie area.” We feel that the time has now come to reconsider the design of this program. We began this study with a survey of the needs and state of readiness of the 2003 course participants, and of their life situations in Japan. In this paper, the results of this survey are analyzed and the details of the course are reported, together with the participants' evaluations. Finally, future possibilities and challenges are discussed. | |||||||||||||
