| 内容記述 | Many research articles on Bernhard Schlink’s bestselling novel The Reader (1995) focus on the crimes committed by the illiterate Hanna during the Nazi era. This has led to the interpretation that Hanna was finally moralized in prison by learning to read, and that she committed suicide as atonement for her guilt. This paper shows that this interpretation is guided by the repressive narrative of the first-person narrator Michael, who presents Hanna’s becoming literate as atonement, and argues that The Reader is a novel about the conflict between an illiterate and a non-illiterate. | |||||||
