| 内容記述 | From about the early 1960's, Japanese agriculture experienced a drastic reduction in the number of farm workers, caused by the postwar industrial spurt. It was particularly significant among male workers. In this paper, we attempt to clarify the nature of changes for the structure of the labor force of the farm household beginning in that period. The significant empirical findings are as follows. (1) The husband, primary earner in the farm household, chooses to work in family business or to seek employment outside so as to make his own income maximized independently of the participation behavior of other household members. (2) In households where the primary earner (the household head) has chosen to be employed outside, wives may begin to seek employment outside, or not to participate in the labor force at all. In addition their wives who choose to be self employed in family business reduce the number of work-days. Their participation behavior is significantly affected by the form of participation of the household head (self-employment or hired labor). |
